Fostering a safe space for recovery

2. An Introduction!

March 15, 2022

Happy Day Light Savings!

Welcome to my new blog. I’m Kathleen Picardi and I have been alcohol and drug free for many years, one day at a time. I am extremely grateful to be able to say that. My intention for this blog is that it becomes interactive, with your comments, and a sharing of ideas.

Did you know that it is said that the “issues live in our tissues”? I’m sure you know what yoga is, but maybe curious as to what Yoga For Recovery is… I was. It’s a 12 step based discussion and yoga practice open to anyone and everyone dealing with their own recovery or with someone not yet in recovery. It’s a 45-minute topic based meeting followed by a 45-minute yoga practice. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to join. The practice is a slow stretch and movement that addresses substance use disorder for the mental, physical and spiritual disorder that it is.

We meet on Sunday evenings on Zoom at 6:00-7:30 p.m. Beginning Sunday, April 3, we will be in person at the Peer Recovery Center as well as on Zoom, and we’ll begin at 6:30-8:00 – a time change for Spring/Summer.

Spring is the season of new beginnings, give yourself this gift. we’d love to meet you!

This is such a wonderful class! I am very thankful to SSPR and Kathleen for offering another path to health, happiness and wholeness. The reading and discussion portion brings insight and fellowship, the yoga allows our bodies to work out our issues on a deep physical level. Personally I like to use all the tools provided to live my best life.

Yoga is a substantial part of my program of recovery. The reading, reflection, sharing, and gentle stretching that happens under Kathleen’s direction at SSPR is a gift! I feel spiritually connected and physically and emotionally healthier when I attend.
